Galmadrua: the most stimulating Portuguese jazz band I've heard in a long time. The sheer freedom/inventiveness of the double bass; the balance brought to it by the rough lyricism of the sax; and Mário's drums bracing it all in the most efficient way. Certain moments reminded me of Byron Allen's trio, with Maceo Gilchrist, and Tad Robinson.
These guys need to play live as much as possible. Invite them. Go see them. Spread the word. And let's hope we don't have to wait much for a record.
